Protecting Your Designs
Although copyright is an automatic right, how to protect this right is left up to the individual. In effect, your protection is only as strong as the amount you are prepared to pay to protect it.
The GCA works closely with Briffa, a modern legal practice specialising in intellectual property (IP): the protection of copyright, designs, patents, trademarks, trade secrets and information technology.
Briffa has two affordable insurance schemes, Designprotect www.designprotect.com and Brandprotect www.briffa.com/brandprotect/brandprotect3.htm which are designed to protect your company from copyright and brand theft.
Starting at £150 for small companies Designprotect insurance offers copyright registration (ie proof of ownership) and provides a minimum fighting fund of £25,000 in the event of your work being copied.
The Brandprotect insurance covers the legal costs of bringing an action in the UK against anyone who has illegally infringed any registered trade mark that you have insured with Briffa; and defending an action in the UK brought by anyone who wrongly claims that your trade mark infringes their trade mark rights.
